DoorDash to acquire Instacart for $17 billion

DoorDash announced on Thursday it has agreed to acquire Instacart in a deal valued at approximately $17 billion. The transaction, consisting of both cash and stock, prices Instacart at $65 per share, representing a 26% premium over its closing price on October 22. The merger unites two major players in the delivery sector: DoorDash, which dominates restaurant takeout with a two-thirds market share in 2024, and Instacart, a leader in grocery delivery. Following the announcement, DoorDash shares rose while Instacart shares remained relatively flat or slightly declined. The deal is expected to close in late 2027 or early 2028, with DoorDash planning to retain the Instacart brand and its technology stack.
